We provide information technology leadership, expertise, infrastructure, and services in support of the teaching and administrative goals of MedEd. | Newly Opened MedEd Simulation Center The Simulation Center, managed by EdCom, is located in UC Building 301. It can be scheduled for School of Medicine-sponsored classes and workshops, including Undergraduate, Graduate, and Continue Medical Education programs. Use of the Sim Center requires an approved faculty sponsor who will be responsible for the training session and equipment used. The Sim Center is equipped with a variety of "partial task trainers". | The Southern California Telemedicine Learning Center (SCTLC) The Southern California Telemedicine Learning Center (SCTLC), established in 2008 through a start-up grant from CTEC (the California Telemedicine and eHealth Center), is co-managed by EdCom. It serves the telemedicine and ehealth learning needs of organizations and providers in the rural and medically underserved Southern California communities (http://telemedicine.ucsd.edu ). The SCTLC has the facilities for and the interest in educating medical students about these technologies and is currently exploring options for curricular integration. |

| Check out "MyFinancialAid" In partnership with the Health Sciences' Financial Aid Office, EdCom has developed and launched “MyFinancialAid”, a web-based application that allows students to view their aid status, disbursements, and missing documents as well as "e-sign" their new and revised awards. Behind the scenes, MyFinancialAid includes database application that allows the Financial Aid Office to view crucial data in a secure and customizable manner, manage student status and missing documents, and create customized reports. |
| CURE – Fall 2009 Launch  EdCom has launched the School of Medicine's Curriculum Resource database. This major initiative, called "CURE", serves as a curriculum catalog and permits teaching faculty, educational administrators, and students to easily search for and determine exactly where content is delivered. Starting Fall 2009, CURE will begin feeding into the Core Course websites and calendars, creating an even more dynamic and powerful learning tool. |
| The MedEd Web Portal Receives Enhancements During the spring quarter, EdCom has implemented serveral student-suggested enhancements to the MedEd Web Portal .These new features include: a ratings system for the Student Study Aids forums and a new type of post called RSVP that allows student groups to better track attendees for events. Be sure to contact EdCom or your EdCom-representative, if you have suggestions for improving this, or any other EdCom-develop application. |
| UCSD's MedPics – updated MedPics is our nationally recognized web-based image delivery system, collaboratively developed by EdCom and course faculty. Over the past several months it has gone an important cycle of review and editing. As a result, the MedPics - Pathology section has been upgraded, and a new MedPics - Ultrasound section has been added. These changes are the outcome of two different student ISPs and are available on the student version of MedPics (login required). Students interested in computer-based ISPs should contact EdCom. |
