Email Forwarding
OFFICIAL POLICY: Electronically Redirecting Email to Third Party Accounts
The Division of Medical Education strongly recommends that Medical Students maintain their @ucsd.edu email address for (at least) official school correspondence while enrolled at UCSD SOM.
However, if you choose to redirect your email to a third party account, you may do so, with the following stipulations:
- You will maintain your email storage below your third party vendor's quota so that important messages can be delivered without the problems associated with full mailboxes.
- If at any time you should choose to change your third party email account, you will immediately return to the My Info tab inside the MedEd Web Portal to update your Mail Delivery Settings.
- You will not use email or email attachments to communicate any patient-identifiable information that would be in violation of HIPAA.
- You realize that MedEd WebMail will not receive any of your email messages and EdCom is not responsible for (or can assist in troubleshooting) any failed email transmissions.
Email Forwarding Procedure
- Go to the My Info tab inside the MedEd Student Web Portal and click the CHANGE 3RD PARTY ACCOUNT button in the Mail Delivery Setting box.
- Read the email policy and click the AGREE button to continue the process. If you click the DECLINE button, the process is stopped.
- After clicking the AGREE button, you will be taken to a webpage to forward your Meded-Mail address to your third party email address.
- Input your third party email address and click the ENABLE button to initiate the forwarding of your Meded-Mail address to your third party email address.
- After forwarding your Meded-Mail email address, you should click the link provided on that page to forward your @ucsd.edu email address to your third party email address.
Cancel Email Forwarding Procedure
- Go to the My Info tab inside the MedEd Student Web Portal and click the CHANGE BACK TO MEDED-MAIL button in the Mail Delivery Setting section.
- You will be taken to a webpage to cancel the forwarding of your Meded-Mail address to your third party email address.
- Click the DISABLE EMAIL FORWARDING button to initiate the cancellation of forwarding your Meded-Mail address to your third party email address.
- After cancelling the forwarding of your Meded-Mail email address, you should click the link provided on that page to cancel the forwarding of your @ucsd.edu email address to your third party email address.
