SUBJECT: House Staff Picnic – Friday, May 15th , 2009

This is sent to advise you that the annual house staff picnic is scheduled this year for FRIDAY, MAY 15TH, 2009 and that it is the tradition that every effort be made to release all house staff from their inpatient and outpatient responsibilities from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. on that date. The picnic is sponsored by the Medical Staff and is financed by Medical Staff Dues. This is one way of showing our appreciation to the house staff for their hard work.

Part of the tradition has been for the departments to either cancel resident dependent clinics or to arrange for faculty to cover such clinics and for the departments to arrange for the faculty to cover the inpatient services, the operating rooms, and the emergency department during the time scheduled for the picnic.

Attached is the flyer with details regarding the event. The picnic will be held at the Santa Clara Recreation Center on Mission Bay.

Please be sure to R.S.V.P to Elaine Garrido by May 8th.

Please be advised that next year that on the advice of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, we will be scheduling the picnic on the third Saturday of the month of May. This will allow the tradition to continue but will result in less disruption to clinics and inpatient scheduling. We will be asking the Departments to insure there is adequate inpatient attending coverage on site for this event and want to give adequate time to prepare.
